RecallCheckup retrieves documented public records from NHTSA, vPIC, CPSC, and openFDA. Exact campaign, model, recall, lot, UPC/NDC, or serial matches are labeled separately from possible text matches.
How RecallCheckup routes users to official recall sources.
A VIN can be decoded exactly through NHTSA vPIC. The documented public recall API is model-level, however, so campaigns returned for a decoded VIN remain possible matches until the VIN is checked in NHTSA's official VIN service. We never label those campaigns as VIN-confirmed open recalls.
